The police are the frontline of the justice system in Scotland. The Police have two main roles in the fight against crime, the prevention and detection of crime. The men and women of the various forces in Scotland are simply civilians nonetheless, however are increasingly alienated by the public and communities. Also on the increase is the mistrust between the police and the public. This could cause problems for the Justice System straight away because the police must gather evidence to positively identify that a crime has been committed. Prevention is a major area that the police are contributing to greatly in a variety of different ways. Prevention of crime is ultimately stopping a crime before it happens. This however is easier said than done as firstly the police need to know why people commit crimes to prevent them.
