The Metric System- Why does it suck?!
...except the U.S. and Great Britain (Williams, McGraw metric 121). I bet that we don’t use it so it does not mess up our normal customs. Also I found that Thomas Jefferson presented the U.S. with a system also based on decimals in 1790(Iona, metric 70b). Why didn’t the U.S. take the system from one of the founding fathers? Why can’t the just stick to the original plans if that is what they agreed with? Only seventeen nations had adopted the metric system by 1875(Barrows “metric” The World Book 441). If this was such a great system then why did only seventeen nations have the system in use after almost a hundred years? Some of the basic measures are km, hm, dam, m, dm, cm, mm (Barrows “metric” The World Book 438). If these are some of the basic measurements then how much more are there. And if there is more what was wrong with the before it. Heat is measured in joules (Barrows “metric” The World Book 440). The metric system also measures heat with kalvin and degree Celsius (Barrows “metric” The World Book 440). Why can’t they have one just like us? It has also been said that the French created it so that it will be used throughout the world (Barrows “metric” The World Book 441). Why didn’t they succeed with their thought out idea? This is all of the information that I have researched. The mist significant t...
