But as the movie went further the other Indians in the tribe wanted to do away with the two of them. They couldn’t be trusted. You can make the argument that, the Indians going back to go look for Father LaFourge, who they knew was lost out in the wilderness by himself, was the reason for half of there tribe getting murdered. But they shouldn’t have had to go back and get him. Father LaFourge’s purpose for being there was to help them and teach them new things. Their reason for calling him the devil was for there lack of knowledge and bad judgment. When he attempted to show them how read and write the Native American actually took offense to what he did and they said the reason for that was because he was the devil. The tensions between the Native Americans and the French weren’t showed to the fullest in the movie, it actually happened to a greater extent. Not all Native American tribes are the same, some can be trusted. In the textbook the Nation of Nations it says “Only one tribe of Indians in New York’s interior, the Iroquois nation, actually gained greater strength from contacts with whites…the Indians of northern New York became important suppliers of furs to white traders”(page 80). This is just saying that not all of the Indians in this area were as selfish as the ones in the movies. The Indian tribes of this area actually were more advanced and seemed to adapt better when it came to communicating with other societies. It could be because it was a different group of people that they were dealing with. In this situation with the fur trade the Dutch basically wiped out and exhausted the fur trading from the Indians. What I am trying to say is that during this period of time it was hard to trust one another because everyone wanted to be ahead of everyone else and if that meant taking advantage of one group of people to get ahead then that is what they did.
