The passage above is a description of Alison which is quite interesting because by her physical characteristics we can already tell that the tale is going to be different than the Knight’s. The passage begins with explaining what type of body Alison has. I feel this must be an important thing about her because when you describe any individual you most likely begin with their characteristic that stands out the most. Or even the characteristic that makes that person a part of who they are. Alison’s body being “slender” shows that Chaucer noticed this physical characteristic as an importance about her. “ A ceyend she werede, barred al of silk” is the type of clothing that she is wearing. A girdle is something that you wear to look sexy and attract attention. I feel that she obviously wants to attract men because a girdle defines your figure and makes you look skinner and a lot slender. Alison also wore shoes that laced up her leg and were quite high. Those shoes are usually worn by prostitutes. I believe that her clothing tells a lot about the type of person Alison carries herself as. By know I now that Alison looks for sexual attention by the way she dresses. But as I read further I found a line that confirms my presumption. “And sikerly she hadde a likerous ye” Alison having a lecherous eye confirms that not only does she attract sexual attention but also looks for sexual activity. I realized that know that is the type of woman who sleeps around. “There nys no man so wys that koude thence, So gay a popelote or wich a wenche” Chaucer says that the wisest man you can meet would have to restrain himself when imagining such a lady of sexual intentions. I think this is important because it explains the jealously of John, and Nicholas’ and Absolon’s strong attraction towards Alison. Another important line would be “Therto she koude skippe and make game, As any kyde or calf flowy...
