Greek Sculptures from the Archaic to Hellenistic Era.

Male sculptures were often in the nude while the female body was done clothed for reason of propriety. It was during the Classical Style the Greeks begun sculpting from bronze. This period also showed a large shift to a more realistic and idealistic figure of the human art form. The period started to show inlaid eyes, teeth and lips. Even though Classical artists idealized the human form they often lacked human expression and personality. Another movement that started was females also were being created nude with often only flowing ropes on. During the Hellenistic Period the Greeks begin to explore the nature of childhood. The art showed the gods as children. In “Sleeping Eros”, the god is created complete with baby fat and child like proportions. He is shown in a state of rest, relaxation and sleeping.
