Year of impossible goodbyes
...gle of one nation. This nation, being North Korea, wants to be free from the invasions of different countries. These different countries come in, and try to change the ways of the people. First it was the Japanese, they commanded the Koreans to speak their language, worship their gods, and abide by their rules. The Korean kids had to learn the way of the Japanese instead of the ways of the Koreans. When the Japanese left, they people began to rejoice, but their rejoicing was cut short. The Russians had come to take over. First the made the Koreans work in their fields, go to the party meetings at night, in order for them to get their I.D. stamped and their rice ration at the end of the week. The only thing that the Russians did not strip the Koreans of was the right to speak their language freely and in public. These Koreans wanted freedom, and the wanted in really bad, so most of them would risk their life, in order to get to the free South Korea that was governed by the Americans. JOURNAL ENTRY #2 “we have been starved and treated like slaves for so long that we can be worn over with a few gestures. People don’t realize they’re being brainwashed” This is particularly true about North Korea, the people were treated with cruelty by the Japanese that when the Russians came, they were won over by the kind gesture of the Russians. They believed that Russians where there to help, to get them on their feet then leave. But the Russians stayed on and made the Koreans work for them, the only difference was that they gave them food, while the Japanese starved them. The Russians made the people feel equal to them.
