... research projects. With old methods we had to write scripts on papers and then if we had to change the paragraph or even if we had to change indentation we had to go through hassle of writing it again. Now when we have computers at home it is matter of minutes for changing indentations. Moreover much of the time is saved as we have a saved version of our writing and we can just make few changes and rewrite it. Before the advent of distance learning a student had to physically come to class but now with the help of distance learning anyone can study anywhere as long as they have the right equipment and right information in front of them. This is helping economy in a long run, where employees do not have to take leave for their learning but they can do it in their own time. The concept of virtual universities is also gaining popularity these days where there is no physical location for university but the whole environment is created for learning. The use of web cams is increasing as it has helped in virtual conferences. Not only that teachers in different countries can actually watch class sessions sitting in their own cabins. Efficient and up to date data is exchanged without delay of time and space. Where technology has brought ease and efficiency in lives of normal students, It has also helped students with disabilities. Because they also needed the proper skills to be critical and creative consumers and producers of texts in any form. Long time ago when these students used to lag behind and found it difficult to keep pace with class now there are special software available to students which allows them to scan their text as well as read that text loudly. Assistive technology was in fact developed for people with physical disability but now it has helped students with learning disabilities greatly. Especially when those students were finding it hard to keep good grades now they have their immediate help in form of computers with special software. Long time ago we used to have simple computer games. But now with the advent of Artificial Intelligence computer games are more sophisticated than before. Instead of playing these games for pleasure only now a great deal of learning is also there. Now these games are to be played with really brain provoking ideas. Which means they are a good exercise for brain. Giving children new venues to discover, new roads to go, new concepts to visualize, and new themes to work upon. Technology where it has good things to offer to world it has some negative aspects too. First of all technology always has a price. It is never cheap. The other thing associated with introducing new technology is that it displaces human beings. Job loss! Anxiety, and depression all are secondary effects of replacing human beings with technology. Do you think modern technology has made life easier and safer? Or do you think that modern technology has made life more difficult and more dangerous? Technology today has made life easier and quicker but dangerous. How is technology dangerous? The answer to this question is very simple. There are lots of incidents where there is malfunction in technology. For example, if there is a problem with a car than the car would not be able to run, or if there is a technical mistake in a train computer system than the train would probably dysfunction and this could lead to a crash. Many people dislike the production of technology. Technology also creates financial problems in families because most technologies are very expensive to buy like the computers, television. Here comes the debatable issue just few days ago I was reading in news paper some patients were asked if they wanted to participate in research for cancer. So they were kept on certain drugs. But more than half of patients died due to the side effects of that drug. Just imagine losing our loved ones. A loss that is not repairable. A vacuum that cannot be filled. A hope that was shown to patients but were never told the side effects. The other fatal example of technology is cloning human beings. Where scientists are trying to get a copy of human beings. Until now they have been unsuccessful but still many scientists are working on it. Well in utopian world we could have set some rules and regulations where we could set some limit, or where we could set meaning for technology. But in real world its hard to follow any such rule as “might is right “ prevails. Just take examples of human cloning and nuclear weapons. So much intellect as well as resources are spared for these projects. I wish even a percent of resources spent on these projects could be spent on people dying with hunger. Countries busy in these type of projects have their own population starving, unprivileged. Does anyone care about them? Could these resources be diverted toward some peace issue, some educational project, helping poor, giving tax relief to middle class. This really hurts. Why would governments be allowing such scientists to go with these projects. Countries which are developed or under developed they are busy on putting resources towards these projects. I strongly believe developed countries have much more role to play in these circumstances. This is just like an adult is more knowledgeable than a kid. The same goes with them also. Regard...
