Abortion
...o is merely a piece of protoplasm. However, many medical studies lead to a pro-life perspective rather than a pro-choice perspective. If medical science can be used to draw the line it is at the moment of conception. J.C. Willke states, “To say that the developing baby is no different from the mother's appendix is scientifically inaccurate. A developing embryo is genetically different from the mother. A developing embryo is also genetically different from the sperm and egg that created it. A human being has 46 chromosomes (sometimes 47 chromosomes). Sperm and eggs have 23 chromosomes. A trained geneticist can distinguish between the DNA of an embryo and that of a sperm and egg. But that same geneticist could not distinguish between the DNA of a developing embryo and a full-grown human being.”(5) Therefore the evidence shows that everything that a baby needs to survive is there at conception. Life has been created. Also, life is exhibited at conception by a heartbeat. A stopped heartbeat is a clear sign to doctors of death. Therefore the onset of a heartbeat can define life. And the heart is formed on the eighteenth day of development. If we used a heartbeat to define life as we use it to define death nearly all abortions would have to be outlawed. Beyond debating if abortion of an unborn children is truly murder many opponents argue that it is the mother’s choice or that it depends on the situation. However the study of many women who choose an abortion shows that many experience regret and depression for the decision they made quickly in fear and deprivation. The truth is many pregnant woman are not in the emotional state to make a level headed decision and often go against there own beliefs and morals. Then after having an abortion the sense of relief for having avoided the stress and responsibility of pregnancy and a baby eventually causes serious psychological and emotional damage. The death of a child is one of the biggest stress points a person can experience. One of the women who’s name is prevalent in the topic of abortion, Jane Roe, has experienced that guilt in a very strong way. “Jane Roe” now known as Norma McCorvey, was the lead plaintiff in the Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion. It was her leadership in the case that legalized the right to an abortion in all 50 states, sparking the political debate that continues today. She changed her stand ...
