Smart Guy
...If William would not have been aware of those types of incidents, I could have been beat up, stabbed, or even shot. After almost being caught in the middle of a drug deal, that is when I realized what Alec Bourne meant when he said “It is possible to store the mind with a million facts and still be entirely uneducated” (NP). In life there are people who succeed based on how much information they can internalize from a text book, but Alec Bourne is saying that a person can have as much knowledge as any book yet still not be wise because of the lack of experience that person has endured. For the final exam, her teacher asked them to bake chicken. Now they never baked chicken in the class, or even discussed how to bake chicken. But Andrea prepared bake chicken one time at home with her mother. So, when the time of the final arrived Andrea remembered exactly how to prepare baked chicken, because she had done it before. All of her classmates were envious of her because she was the only one who able to complete and pass the final exam. This story goes to support Mr. Bourne’s quote was again. Knowledge is essential, but it is not the only source of information out there in the world. A lot of times individuals learn from the mistakes that other individuals have made in life. As a result, these are the people who become successful in life. The successful people in today’s society did not become successful from staying in the house reading. They were out getting “their feet wet.” They were out soaking up every bit of information experience provided. Their desire, dedication, persistence and experience is what made them successful. For instance, Ludacris is now a multi-million dollar rapper. He first started out as a disc jockey for a local radio station in Atlanta, where he began to learn the system. A few mon...
