On the other hand, he is unharmed for the Africa government, so he received a passport from first try. From this fact we can see that the Africa government law has a lot of problem. Even though Elias was far away from his native land, he still wearing the West Africa robe (Gordimer 571) to shows the love of his culture and the desire one day he can go back home. Unfortunately Elias was found drowned in the river, and because of homesickness he was commit suicide. The Africa government caused his death. The death of Elias and the return of he give us a fact that cultural value is very important. Even though he in America will have a more great opportunity to work as an actor and earn more money. But his homesickness about his family and the native land made him come back to Africa. Elias was not as lucky as he, Elias was separated from his culture forever, and so, he died, died by the isolation of him from his own culture (Gordimer 572). The return of he also brings up a lot of problems. This is because he got a passport, get back to Africa and get money from a white friend (narrator), the blacks start to think that he must be some kind of a spy and start questioning about him. On the other hand the white are also suspected about him. At the very beginning, white had never trusted the black; they only treated black as slaves and lower class people. Start from the 19th centuries the Western culture had taken over the Africa society.
