It is not right to put it in the enemy’s power to kill us, when we have the power to kill them and save our own lives. The British Parliament has no right to tax the colonies. This is another reason why I believe Americans are patriots. They had no reason to tax the colonies because majority of the people were not electors. So, it would be unfair to have a burden laid on the trade of the colonies to maintain an army of soldiers, customhouse officers, or groups of ships. England expected all this from them when all the wealth from both the trade and the colonies themselves were not enough to support these groups during the war. England also used mercantilism to help it in keeping their country strong. So, the colonists only existed to benefit England. They were forbidden to trade with other countries, and were told to just sell raw materials to Britain while Britain would make them into finished products and sell them back for more expensive prices. It is because of this that they were given to revolt. One more reason why Americans should be considered patriots is because the revolutionary cause will be victorious. It will assist in allowing us to maintain our faith. It is because of this war that Americans created goals to maintain freedom, because there were high expenses to transport troops and provisions.
