Another argument to have censorship may be that people are afraid their children will read books on sex. This is not a very good argument either, students who are in grade school generally do not have the comprehension level necessary to understand these books, or the desire to read these books. Because these books are written, for the most part, for psychiatrists there would really be no demand for these books on the shelves in the first place. Generally the books that librarians have taken off the shelves are books whish are really not bad, such as To Kill A Mockingbird. These books have words in theme which are taken out of context by students who claim the book is offensive, yet they are really finding an easy out of reading an assigned book. Pier pressure seems to play a major roll in the censorship of our school libraries. The censorship of a librarian is just an opinion. If To Kill A Mockingbird, which is a very old book, can be taken off the library shelves for the word nigger then why are the African American students who call one another nigger also removed from school grounds?
