...ts voice, data, video distribution services and emerging interactive multimedia communications. Large bandwidth, lower installation cost and ease of deployment coupled with recent advancements in semiconductor technologies for wireless applications make BWA an attractive solution for broadband service delivery. BWA is generally of architecture, which include base stations and subscribers in a particular area. This architecture is familiar in mobile communications systems and relies on the choice of base station sites that are high enough above the general terrain to communicate directly with subscriber. One of the most compelling aspects of BWA technology is that networks can be created in just weeks by deploying a small number if BSs on building or poles to create high-capacity wireless access. BWA has had limited reach so far, in part because of the unmet need for a universal standard. While providing such a standard is important for developed countries, it is even more important for the developing world where wired infrastructures are limited. The IEEE 802.16 WirelessMAN Standard In recent years there has been increasing interest shown in wireless technologies for subscriber access, as an alternative to traditional twisted-pair local loop. These approaches are generally referred to as Wireless Local Loop ( WLL ), or fixed-wireless access. To provide a standardized approach to WLL, the IEEE 802 committee set up the 802.16 working group in to develop broadband wireless standards. 802.16 is a group of broadband wireless communications standards for Metropolitan Area Networks ( MANs ) developed by a working group of the Institute of Electrical and Electro...
