They have to write on a wide variety of subjects such as memos, letters, correspondences, and they have to write or take notes on what is said in meetings. The writing that is done is very important because they meet with important people such as architects and contractors and they must turn in whatever is said and the things that have to be done. “If something is written incorrectly the whole project might be backed up for day’s maybe even months”. I then asked him if he felt comfortable with what he had learned in the English course he had taken while studying for his degree. He told me that the courses had given him an idea of what was necessary to write but that he had learned more on the kind of writing that is done in his workplace through his engineering professors. “Persuasive writing is not used very often; it’s kind of rare to see this type of writing. I’ve only done it once when I had to convince some contractors to build on a certain place and even then it wasn’t to the full extent of rhetorical composition”. Once I had asked him about the writing part I proceeded to ask him about other things concerning me getting a job. He told me that it was important for me to seek a job and not wait for it to come to me. He gave me a few tips on how to make a good first impression and where I could find those jobs.
