The author’s purpose for writing this story is to demonstrate the love that grows from brotherhood. For example, one day when Doodle was up in the loft looking at a casket, his brother explained to him that the casket was made for Doodle. Brother told him that he would not help him down and that he would leave him there if Doodle did not touch the casket. Doodle was scared and he yelled, “Don’t leave me Brother,” and he touched the casket. This showed how much Doodle loved his brother. Another example is when they were running towards the house in a thunderstorm. Brother starts running and Doodle could not keep up. Doodle yells,”Brother, brother, don’t leave me!” Brother kept on running until he couldn’t run anymore. He stopped and waited for Doodle but he never came. Brother finds him under a tree with blood in his mouth. His heart had given out from running too hard and Brother held him as he died.
