...a great deal of power and were able to do things that citizens disapproved highly. While on the other hand, the United States give anyone the ability to vote an immediate stake in the government. A stupid idea coming from a dictator and destroy a country, where as a stupid idea coming from a businessman just gets shut down. The complete rejection of slavery of the United States also greatly increases the stability of the society. When everyone gets paid to do a job, suddenly everyone has a reason to work. Slaves knew they had no hope of being anywhere higher in society. Why actively work toward success when that success would be easily taken away by taxes, theft, or murder? On the masters side, why worry about innovating, when one could simply buy a slave to do all the work. Slaves also caused many problems for the Romans because if the master was killed, the slaves were set free. This caused many killings of the masters by the slaves, especially since not only would the men be set free his whole family would be free of slavery. Taxes were a major problem for the Roman Empire. The United States collect much taxes from the citizens, but we are sure they are spent on improvements of the nation. Just before the fall of Rome, the high taxes were spent on entertainment for the population. This money went on free bread and circuses for the Romans, just so they wouldn’t turn on the greater leaders. This money was never seen by the people again, while the United States have an income tax day that helps every citizen who pays taxes tremendously. Another major mistake that the Romans made with taxes was by charging the lower class for taxes. The emperor at the time figured Rome could greatly enhance their tax collection by making the lower class citizens, which forced them to pay taxes. The lower class had just enough money to survive, if even that much, so no one could pay for the taxes. In ancient Rome the middle class did not exist.
