...ective from life. Farber´s essay is focused on how the scholars system works. He thinks that modern scholar’s system is just a way to control us. One of his main points is the meaning of what we are learning, “… what matters is pleasing the authorities.” (Farber, no year). Although the perspective he shows during his text, I completely disagree with this point. Basically, school has two functions: teaches discipline and gives you tools to face real life. If you do not learn how to behave (not to follow all orders), your life ends in a hole. I know that people always expect a certain behavior from you, and I don’t mean to be like a soldier. But you must learn that the rave-ups are not forever. Also the tools are not only the studies, they can be different situations to face. Farber talks about punishments in the system. The system we have is made by actions and reactions, punishments and domination. In this case, punishments just constitute the ball and the chains we are tied, and the domination represents the keys of the padlock that we lost. Embarrassment is just a punishment as Farber says. Teachers do not care about the psychological damage students are exposed. But the punishments do not finish here. Regrettable in Mexico we had a strange method to teach some decades ago. If people did not learn what was told, teachers hit them. In these cases, what can we learn about frustrated people that discharge their furious anger? From what I see, teachers and administrators no longer have any true powers to punish students. I know education is the key to a person's success, but students always try to rebel, to impose their own rules. You can't help anyone who refuses to help themselves. There are a rare few kids who really reject education, but without strict policies regarding physical violence and discipline, the amount of misbehavior in the schools will continue to rise. Our world is strange and sick. Nowadays education simulates prisons and army trainings. What we have to rescue is the real goal of education: Get concrete thoughts, not to digress. Many US Universities have forgotten this concept, I think because the government controls (as many other things) the way schools must teach. Unfortunately, universities do not teach what is needed. People forget about human concepts, the only goal is to earn money without watching their environment. It is weird, but what people learn is not to do what they want, to satisfy their basic necessities. People just say YES to what the system imposes. For me, not only US government is involved in how to teach. I think companies also have something to give to this point. Competition begins si...
