...iginal Honest Ed’s. Ed Mirvish is a great example of a true entrepreneur in every sense. Ed was able to see that the society that he lived in had a specific want and he knew how to exploit it. The want that this society had was that of an inexpensive place to shop. Ed knew that if he opened a store with cheaper prices than those of his competitors, he would draw in business. Ed accomplished this by offering a no frills shopping experience. This was the opposite of many other department stores strategies. Ed got rid of unnecessary things such as delivery services, parking, and in-store credit. By doing this he saved money which allowed him to lower prices on his goods and still make a profit. Ed, like many other entrepreneurs had certain qualities about him that allowed him to achieve success. The one that Ed prides himself most on is honesty. None of Ed’s many ventured has ever been caught up in shady dealings. Honest Ed has never brought in an outside partner to run any of his enterprises other than family members, and has never gone public, all things that have been known to decrease the integrity of a business. Ed is also a hard working and dedicated man. He could have been seen in his store every day at eight in the morning well after he was in his 80's. At lunch he could be seen in one of his restaura...
