...of the coin it is an eye-opening experience which encourages a more realistic look into modern-day religious practices and beliefs. On the other side of that same coin it is a piece of writing which may be believable enough that although it is fiction it may be taken as purely fact. The book clearly stated in the introduction that the characters and their discussions were fictional, but it was the way in which this was presented that makes the whole thing seem so real. Dan Brown states that “all descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate.” This leaves the reader unsure of how much fiction is truth. This proves to be the beauty of the novel, but also its greatest enemy. Dan Brown’s states that his “hope in writing this novel was that the story would serve as a catalyst and a springboard for people to discuss the important topics of faith, religion, and history.” He certainly did that dream justice because it seems that everyone has something to say about Davinci Code. The book should be examined on a more personal, level rather than on a global scale as it stands. It does not appear that Dan Brown set out to destroy any religion, or prove anything other than no one truly knows what the truth is. History is a funny thing because it is understood as law. If it is written in history books it must be true. There will always be two sides to any story and unfortunately only one side is told throughout history.
