...see what was going to happen. She was always wondering about what people’s lives were like and why they acted like they did. Scout was also portrayed as an imaginative girl. She liked to play the acting game with Jem and Dill. They would make up stories about different people’s lives and act them out. The one they would act out the most was Boo Radley’s life. Scout loved to imagine everything that had happened in his life. She also liked to make up things about his life. The children would act out how Boo had supposedly stabbed his father in the leg with scissors and then they would add on different endings each time. Scout was definitely a tomboy in this novel. She didn’t really have woman role model, so she looked up to her father and her brother. She wanted to be like them. She wouldn’t wear skirts or dresses because she didn’t like them and because she wore overalls to look more like Jem. She also followed Jem around everywhere trying to be like him. At school she even got into fights. In those days, it was not proper for girls to fight, but she did it anyway. Therefore she was considered a tomboy. Although Scout could be considered independent, there is more evidence of her being dependent. First of all, she depends on Jem to let her follow him all the time. For example, when they go to the trial, she follows him there and he lets her because he know she really wants to go. The time when he wouldn’t let her go with him to fetch his pants on the fence, she got upset because she was used to going everywhere with him. Another person she depends on is Atticus. She always looks forward to sitting with him and reading, that her is alone time with her father. She also depends on her father’s kindness and honesty towards her. Although she doesn’t realize it, she also depends on Calpurnia in a way. Calpurnia is the only woman in her life until Aunt Alexandra comes to live with them.
