To get Macbeth to go through with the murder Lady Macbeth tries to convince Macbeth by questioning his manhood “When you durst do it, then you were the man; and be so much more than what you were, you would be so much more the man” (Act 1, Scene 7, Lines 49-51) She wants him to be king so bad, she wants him to succeed and for him to do whatever it takes to do that. She is saying if you kill him you will be so much a better man then you are now, she is pushing him to do what she wants. Lady Macbeth wants Macbeth to go through with this so much, but if she had the chance to go though with it she would, she would become a man to do this, even though she knows the love that Macbeth holds for his king, she would still go through with it. “I have given suck, and know how tender ‘tis to love the babe that milks me: I would, while smiling in my face, have pluck’d my nipple from his boneless gums, and dash’d the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this” (Act 1, Scene 7, Lines 54-58.) She would have killed her own baby if she had to, just like Macbeth should kill his king, in her mind this seems right if he wants to succeed and for Macbeth’s prophecy to come true. One of the most direct cases in this book of manhood is when Malcolm is talking to Macduff and say “Dispute it like a man” (Act 4, Scene 3, Lines 219.)
