... The creation of a flying museum, memorial, and classroom to preserve the memory of the great Berlin Airlift of 1948-49 was begun in November of 1988. This museum took the form of the Douglas C-54 "Spirit of Freedom", restored and operated by the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation, and completed its first full airshow season in 1995. The C-54E/R5D (it served in the USAF and USN) Skymaster was awarded Best Transport in Oshkosh in 1996. Uniformed volunteers verbally augment the historical documents and displays inside the immaculate interior of the C-54. The Foundation is continually seeking information about the men and women who participated in the airlift, and those who lost their lives in this heroic effort. Your support is needed to ensure the success of the Foundation's effort. You can help by providing information, contributing time and service, with financial donations, and by becoming a member of the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation.
