PARENTAL PARTNERSHIP IS IMPORTANT. DISCUSS VARIED MODES OF COMMUNICATION.
...ved. Beginning School Teachers can at the beginning of the year ask parents to fill out a list of information about families and learning goals for their children Go over it together with parents and ask them to return it when complete. If possible teacher should talk to parents about their child learning goals face-to-face. It can be a focus for conversation about their children and the program. Teachers can talk to parents about their children’s positive accomplishments without using the list when they see them from time to time throughout the year. Teachers can also invite parents to bring their children and stay themselves for the brief class session at the beginning school year or invite them to stay until the child feels comfortable without them. Teachers and coworkers can then better divide their time between the parents and their children. Set up a time when you can meet with each family. Allow working parents to visit the class, perhaps on a lunch hour. Or otherwise teacher can also visit the child’s home in the evening. Teacher should try to arrange meeting up with parents at a suitable timing and location for working parents. Home Visits Most of the working parents are very busy, if they are unable to visit the class in the day time, teacher should arrange time to make home visits to see the child in the home setting and give parents information about how their child has adjusted to the center. Home visits should be informed to parents at the beginning of the program to make them feel at ease with each other. During the visit, parents usually will get very concerned if the meeting is focus on the child. A home visit is important not only for the teacher to gain a feeling for the child’s home and family background but also for the family to learn that the program and teacher care enough about their child to take time to visit his home. Classroom Visits When a family member visit the child’s classroom, teacher can invite them to join in their child’s activity like reading children a story or making snack for the children; make a puzzle or build block together with the children. Teacher can also invite the child and parent to look at the classroom book collection and to select a book to sign out and take home. This is a good time for teacher to exchange notes with a parent. Put a file card in the book the child is borrowing. On it teacher can write a brief message about the child or the program and ask the parent to reply in the back of the card. Teacher can also encourage parents to volunteer in the classroom regularly. Teacher first need to talk with parents about program goals, teacher goals for individual children, and what the parents themselves would be comfortable doing during they stay in the classroom. In the beginning, teacher can get parent volunteers to observe both children and teachers, focusing on certain areas of the teacher skills checklist, so that they have a better understanding of how staff members carryout program goals. The area of guidance is one that often needs an explanation. Let each parent spend time observing how staff members “use positive intervention methods to help children control their inappropriate behaviour’ or how they “use positive reinforcement techniques to help children learn appropriate behaviours.” At the end of the observation time, teacher will want to sit down with the parent and discuss what she or her observed. Parent Conferences Parent conferences can be arrange from time to time during the year. However it should be planned ah...
