What Kind of Students Are You?
...nderstand some things that the grading scales does reflect. It is actually directly related to which type of student personality the student has acquired. There are three major types of students; Straight-A, Dreamers, and Miracles. If you look at each student personality type, it will be easier to understand how the grading system could affect each student. Straight-A Students A Straight-A student actually enjoys school and the academic process. These students usually like to read and complete assignments, and they have probably been this way all of their life. When studying or doing homework, they go the extra mile. Straight-A students do everything in detail and rarely ever miss a beat. They will study that extra hour and reread information that 10th time. Teachers love these students! In addition, they cooperate and go beyond what is expected. Obviously they usually make all A’s, and the GPA will be way above average. If this student ever received a grade lower than an A, they would be extremely disappointed and this would encourage them to try even harder. They may even become temporarily depressed. The family background may consist of a sibling who also did well in school. The parents may not have used toys and candy to reward these children, but instead read a book with them. The family is most likely middle to upper class and extra educational resources may have been available. Dreamers The Dreamers dream of being Straight-A students, but they know it is impossible for them to be that. It is impossible mainly because they know they are lazy, and that they will never apply themselves as much as a straight a student does. Dreamers respect Straight-A students and look up to them. One might even say that Dreamers are jealous of the Straight-A’s. Dreamers value good grades and do the best they can for the amount of effort they are willing to put forth. Dreamers do more than enough to get by. If a dreamer receives a bad grade, they may slightly cringe, however they accept it because in most cases it is what can be expected. A Dreamer never works to their full potential. Dreamers don’t worry about whether or not they will pass a class or a grade level. They know they will. These students will make A's, and Bs and occasionally a C. Miracles You can spot a Miracle when you see one, and anyone who has ever been in school has witnessed a Miracle student. These students do not care at all about grades. They only do work because everyone else is doing it. Miracles may not even carry a book bag, books, or have paper and pencil. You will hardly see them handing work in. They are called “miracles” because it had to be a miracle for them to pass. You wonder how they made it to the grade level they are at. It had to be a Miracle. These students are the t...
