To Kill a Mockingbird
... keep an eye out for Jem and Scout. Jem and Scout, after a couple times of trying to get Boo out, finally give up. They realize that, “Boo Radley wants to stay inside.” (Lee, pg. 227) Jem and Scout get attacked by Mr. Ewell, at the end of the novel, but Boo was there to save them. He was nothing like what people thought. He is like a mockingbird because he never does anybody harm and is there to help. Mockingbirds stay out of peoples way except when something they care about is getting hurt. The second mockingbird is Tom Robinson. Tom is a black man. He lives in Maycomb, Alabama. Tom has a wife and three kids. Tom was charged for raping a white girl, Mayella Ewell. The Ewells’ are those kind of people that live off of welfare checks and even that’s not enough to live off. People think that Mr. Ewell just drinks it all away. Tom had to go to court and was found guilty. Everyone knew he was innocent, but he was black. “He had no chance, he was a dead man the day Mayella opened her mouth and screamed.” (Lee, pg. 241) Tom went to a prison camp and later tried to escape. He was shot seventeen times. Mr. Underwood said in his editorial that, “It is a sin to kill a cripple.” (Lee, pg. 241) The thoughts of some of the townsfolk were that Tom did not deserve to die. Tom was being forgotten in some peoples’ lives but in others he will always be remembered. Many things may happen in the remainder of the two mockingbirds lives. Tom passes away...
