Moreover, the positives of living off-campus are less stress and better grades for college students. However, the negatives of living off-campus seem to be more acceptable reasons for many college students not living off-campus. For example, the view that living on campus during college is “a rite of passage.” The ability to create good friendships while living with fellow students and facing challenges encompasses this “rite of passage.” Another reason why many students live on campus is that time is being wasted while commuting to college that could be used to study. The belief that living at home makes it hard for most college students to be satisfied with their freedom is another reason why living on campus seems inviting. Furthermore, the convenience of living in a place where friends, classes, and the social scene are in close proximity is a very compelling reason for many students to live on campus. However, I disagree with that logic in that colleges have a sole purpose to educate young minds, not to be a forum for students to socialize. I believe that living in a dorm is not a right of passage for college students.
