Knowing this he left Corinth never to return, afraid that if he stayed the prophecies would come true. Whilst on his travels he met a man who he later killed on a road where three roads met. „X Jocasta comforts him by saying even though he may have killed Laius. The prophecy that was told to Laius could still not come true because the killed their first son by leaving him on a hillside. „X Jocasta enters from the house to be greeted by a messenger who tells her that Oedipusˇ¦ dad is dead and that he is now the king of both Thebes and Corinth, Jocasta tells Oedipus the good news. Oedipus is now sure that he did not kill his father, however he still was worried about marring his mother. The messenger assured him that this could never happen, as she was not his mother. He relates this story to how he became their son. „X The messenger told him that he was given an infant, which was saved from death, by a stranger whilst he was a shepherd on a hillside.
