Once his family was in deep debt , Benedict Arnold was taken out of school, and this brings upon many questions of his feelings towards losing an opportunity of an education. . This young child was full of extra energy, willing to try anything to earn some extra money. After a while, his mother finally found him a job working with some of his other family members. His cousins Daniel and Joshua Lathrop let him work for them as a trainee for several years. This gentleman showed many great signs of character during his youth because he never once gave up when his family was in trouble either finically or emotionally. This young man would leave on several occasions to go serve during the French and Indian War. Before the official outburst of war, Arnold became a Captain in the Governor's Second Company of Guards. When the Battles of Lexington and Concord spread around the areas, Arnold marched off to the fight with his troop because he was really eager for action. In 1778, George Washington appointed Benedict Arnold the military commander of Philadelphia after the British left. During this time he was being accused of being friendly with the loyalists. When the British left, many tensions arose between patriots and loyalists. He was also accused of using public transportation for his own personal profit, since all of the shops were closed in Philadelphia at the time. Arnold was then faced with corruption by a court marshal and had to resign his post on March 19, 1779. Soon after resigning, Benedict took his services over to Britain. This man was mistreated for all of his services and was considered a traitor even though his country betrayed him. He was certainly angry and hurt over the many trivial accusations he received over the years. His pride was most likely the biggest piece of his life that was damaged. He had to resort to these tactics of making money because the government was not paying him his dues for his services to America. No one showed him the respect he deserved and Britain offered to pay him large amounts of money to work in the British military.
