We honestly cannot find any information pointing to a negative impact that the legalization of prostitution has had. People sometimes need to look past their own morals to see what is right in front of them. The "profession" will always exist, but as a society, we can make prostitution safer, and possibly even a little less degrading. Wherefore we need the legalization of prostitution. One reason Prostitution should be legalized is that it is a personal choice. People engage in prostitution for many different reasons. The most important reason why the women decide to enter and remain in prostitution is economic motivations badly affect them (Flowers, 2001). For example, compared to prostitution, no other professions that are available to unskilled or low-skilled poor women provide income. Everybody has their freedom to choose their jobs. On December 20, 2001, BBC NEWS reported that legal prostitution got new rights in German, 400,000 prostitutes got health care, pensions and life insurance which they had never hold originally (Broomby, 2001). Accordingly, if prostitutes want to get their rights which are the most wishful, the precondition is legalization of prostitution. With prostitution being legal, people might benefit from prostitution by taxation; taxation of prostitution will result in increased taxes collected by cities, counties and states. If prostitution were legal, most prostitutes would pay tax. Ms. Leslie, a Nevada assemblywoman said that prostitutes should pay taxes like every other entertainers (Goldman, 2003). Also, it is reported that the sex trade had a big impact on the world economy (Raymond, 2003). In 1988, International Labor Organization (ILO) reported that the sex industry occupied between 2 to 14 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in Philippines Thailand, Malaysia, and the Indonesia (Poonyarat, 2003). It is proved that prostitution should contribute significantly to the economy. Therefore, the legalization of prostitution could broaden the taxation and create revenue for government. Additionally, the legalization of prostitution can prevent the spread of STD's. A major concern about STDs is the spread of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), which is currently a deadly STD because a cure has not been found for the disease. AIDS usually connects with prostitution “through sexual touch and drug use” (Flowers, 1998 as reported in Flowers, 2001, p149). If prostitution were legal, it could be more easily regulated, specifically with medical testing for STDs, for the protection of both the prostitutes and their clientele. In Nevada, Prostitution is legal and heavily regulated in several cities of certain counties, and the women in the brothels are able to go to a clinic and get protection (Nevada, 2001), or whatever she need without the fear of being arrested. HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report citing there were 56,792 AIDS cases in New York; compared to it, Nevada just had 2,249 cases (2001). The Nevada example is an excellent learning ground. There could very easily be a government registration system through which prostitutes could get a license, the monthly or weekly renewal of which would require health check-ups. Singapore has such a system already for its prostitutes, prostitutes have to carry a "yellow card" that attests that they are registered and with mandatory health checks every two weeks (Singapore, 2001).
