This shows the significance of the past as it can shape what we are, and even what we will be. Our tradition and heritage is clearly evident in the commentaries and pictures in the City of Edmonton Archives. They depict exactly where we have come from, our worst failures, and our grandest accomplishments. All of these events affect us and how we react to different situations. When Team Canada won the 2002 winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Canadians everywhere erupted into the streets waving the Maple Leaf, sporting the red and white proudly. The celebrations were so great that many roads were plugged with the ecstatic fans of the greatest game in the world. Many of these people did not play hockey, and some didn’t even like hockey, but everyone all over the entire country supported Team Canada and took great pride in their Olympic win because Olympic hockey is laid deep in their heritage and traditions. This surge of nationalism shows just how Canada’s hockey-rich heritage affects every Canadian’s decisions in the present. Canadians erupted in celebration because our tradition states that hockey is our game and that we are the absolute best at it.
