...take a lot of extra classes that are not really needed and not help them be competitive, such as English composition, English/American Literature (including one course in ethnic American literature), American history, and European history, African or Asian history. Why would you need to take all of those English and history classes when they don’t really benefit the students in the working/real world? Another two classes that in my opinion would not help the students are social science and senior seminar. That is why the Ozawa Plan is a better choice for the Addams State College. The students of Sociology 220 took a poll of a 100 students that were chosen at random from the cafeteria to see which of the plans they like better. The results of the poll were 68% voted for the Ozawa Plan, and 20% of the students voted for the Williams Plan. There also was a large amount of students that didn’t care The Ozawa Plan helps those students get more direct education towards their major, whereas the Williams Plan wants the students to take all these other classes that are not needed and the students don’t want to take them anyways. A sampling of student opinions by the Outlook got pretty much the same response. As Marcus Smith, a Business Administration major, put it, “I just want to get on with my career. I don’t need all the history and English, and I don’t want to take it. The G.E. classes I’ve had to take have been lousy. Half the teachers don’t even care whether you learn the stuff.
