Teen Pregnancy
...ely one out of every five babies born in Louisiana, are born to teen mothers. Every day, forty-one teens within Louisiana become pregnant. Furthermore, teenage mothers are more at risk of problems during their pregnancy. A teenage mother is more likely to encounter problems such as: premature labor, anemia, or high blood pressure. For this reason, the baby may suffer form lung problems, low birthrate, or bleeding to the brain. Also, life is often difficult for a teenager mother and her child. One out of three teen mothers drops out of school. Because of the shortage of her education, a teenage mother may lack job skills which in turn make it hard to find and keep a job. Moreover, she may become financially dependent on family and welfare, and more likely to live in poverty. From my perspective, this issue has made a large impact on teenage girls within my community.
