...ot dining hall, four (4) dormitory buildings totaling 9,114 square feet (including the “Consultant Quarters” and “Guest Quarters”) for a total of 29 dormitory units, each with a capacity of two persons; one 1,076 residential dwelling unit (“Master’s Quarters”); and one 925 square foot living quarters for an employee of the facility (this unit does not have a kitchen). You might have already received a request to sign one of several petitions either for or against this project. As president of the Rowland Heights Community Coordinating Council, I would like to advise that there are an overwhelming number of residents who are opposed to this “retreat”. While our organization is unopposed to the use of property for church purposes, we are very definitely concerned about the inconsistency of use where dormitories and resultant high-density housing is allowable on property designated as “Light Agricultural” (A-1-1) … which means one house on a minimum one-acre lot. There are other obvious concerns this project will bring to the community, including traffic and noise. Those of you living on or near Native and Dusk streets need to be aware that the Department of Regional Planning is recommending approval of this project … including a variance in the allowable height for buildings. Plans call for the main chapel to be 50’ above grade (vs. the 35’ limit). The Draft Environmental Impact Report conveniently excluded visual examples of what this facility would look like if you were looking out your window or back yard toward the west. Tomorrow night, we will be conducting our regularly scheduled general meeting of the Rowland Heights Community Coordinating Council.
