...into the Mariner’s story because we see the story in the wedding guest’s point of view as he is mesmerized by the Mariner’s glittering eye. Repetition of glittering eye emphasises how captivated the guest is. The texts I have chosen (Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Coleridge and The Lovesong of J.A.Prufrock) both explore the ideas of the Imaginary Journeys and links can be drawn between both texts through several key ideas. The main idea presented in both texts is the idea of isolation and loneliness. Use of similes “Like a patient etherized upon a table” – dull simile, feeling numb. Feels isolated and incapable of decisive action. The images of the opening lines depict a drab neighborhood of cheap hotels and restaurants, where Prufrock lives in solitary gloom.
