But I for one do not agree. Marijuana only leads to more marijuana, if anything at all. It is a fact that weed, as many people call it, is less dangerous in the long run then cigarettes and people smoke less of it at a time. No one has ever died from marijuana and it does not lead to physical dependency. History shows us that through places like Amsterdam where marijuana is legal that nothing unusually bad happens and they actually have the lowest drug addiction rate in the world. As seen in Amsterdam legalizing marijuana will only eliminate the need of an underground subculture. Marijuana has many medical values. It was a major active ingredient in 40-50% of patent medicines before its ban. Marijuana could replace at least 10-20% of prescribed drugs now in use and it is a medicinal herb that has hundreds of proven valuable therapeutic uses. The Therapeutic uses vary from stress reduction to glaucoma to asthma to cancer therapy, etc. Although, it is argued that legalizing marijuana will only add to the problems of our society.
