Monuments Much Better Than Money
...cause we run into problems like who would do it, and where should it take place. We have done a lot of things wrong in the history of America, and we have learned from our mistakes. All the “good” and “bad” things that we have done have helped us create and become what we are today. When the colonies wrote the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, they purposely left out the slavery issue so all the colonies could agree. The south was still using slaves, even though the text states that all men are created equal, and they signed it. Today in our society slavery still creates tension among people, and is also a common issue of debate. We need to do something to ease the tension among white Americans and black Americans, without apologizing or handing out large amounts of money. Our Country has handed out cash settlements to groups of people or countries that we have done wrong to, or over-thrown, which is called reprimands. If the government handed out cash, it would be wasted by irresponsible people. I know that not everyone would waste the money, and some of it would be used in a good way, for example getting a better education or making investments. The bad thing also about money is once its gone, its gone, and it tends to go fast. Instead of cash, I propose the idea of some kind of memorial or monument that would honor the slaves that were mistreated or killed. It could be a place that African Americans could go to in memory of their loved ones, and celeb...
