At first Taylor is a little overwhelmed by what has happened, but she cannot just leave the child there so she takes Turtle with her. Soon enough Turtle begins to grow on Taylor and now she cannot leave the side of Turtle. They travel all the way to Arizona where they meet Lou Ann and Dwayne Ray. After a few months Taylor decides that she wants legal custody of Turtle. She feels that it is going to be hard to get legal guardianship of Turtle. Taylor meets with the social worker, Cynthia who gives her the custody without that much of a hassle. Now they were a family just like Taylor and her mother were a family. Taylor has a very special bond with Lou Ann Ruiz. They have a connection which all started when Taylor went looking for a place to stay. Lou Ann and Taylor have many similarities in their lives. For one, Lou Ann has problems with her husband Angel who left her just like Taylor’s father did to her and Mama.
