The lighting of the room tends to focus on the mother sitting behind Bush. Her blue dress adds to the focus and keeps your eyes there for a few seconds longer than a black or brown dress would. The dress also goes well with what the baby is wearing. The father is almost an afterthought in the picture. The lighting is careful to almost shade him out but still show the older daughter. The lighting tells me that married mothers with children are a targeted audience of Mr. Bush’s speech by the fact that the mother seems to be lit up in the picture. The clothes that the family is wearing are very important to the effect of the picture. The mother’s dress is plain and respective, as are the fathers. The dress can tell us that the mother is a stay at home mom. This could be confirmed by the lack of jewelry, because stay at home moms will tell you that jewelry only gets in the way when taking care of children(OÌNeal).
