why men commit more crimes than women
... considered unnatural and she is looked at as a dangerous beast or falling angel because she proved to society that she can step out of the boundaries of what is expected of women. A male role is to take care of the family also, but in contrast to a female role, their expected to be rough and live on the edge. Males were basically being praised when they acted in a rude or disrespectful ways ,or committed some type of crime. Society puts it out their that when a male commits a crime no mater what type of crime it is, it is natural. Which basically say that crime is expected more from men than women because of the idea that “boys will be boys”. In society treating males that crime is okay is really motivating them to commit crime because it is expected of them. Another reason to due with the fact that men commit more crime has to do with the reason of the offenders and motivation. Men and women commit crime according to their social location in society. According to one of the author, “Lynne Goodstein” of the book “ Women, Crime and Criminal Justice” it states that, “Gender inequality intersects with other inequalities, including racism and ethnocentrism, social class inequality, ageism and heterosexism, to increase or decrease women’s likelihood not only of offending but also getting arrested and incarcerated, being victimized, or a combination of these outcomes” (pg,11). She also stated “Women also engage in criminal activity as a survival strategy in response to psychological and sexual abuse in their home and the street. Which brings us to the fact that the crime women commit are motivated by gender inequality and their means to survive and developed a network of friends ( prostitution, burglary friends, gang activity, and etc). Where as several studies, of how men are over represented in all areas of crime, shows males commit crime because of the males’ role to be masculine.
