...e media to portray itself throughout. During the film the media is very biased towards both campaigns. One particular example of this is when Bob Roberts is about to go on the show “Good Morning Philadelphia.” Right before he goes on, the host of the show tells him that she does not support his views. This leads to the two of them having an exchange on the air about differing points of view. While this seems to be an uncomfortable moment for the candidate, it actual helps him. With the host blowing up at him, it allows Roberts the opportunity to not have to be pressed on the issues that he only seems to sing about. This works out well for Roberts simply because he can now state that he has tried to discuss the issues all the while being attacked before he can respond to the issues. The same can be said about the media and Senator Paiste’s campaign. There is one scene in which the Senator is dropping off a young girl out of his car. The Senator is accused of having an affair with a young girl, when in fact the picture may have been cropped to not show the Senator’s niece, whom he claims the girl is a friend of. This is just another example of how the media can and does effect a campaign in many ways. The film also has a certain tone that is set early on. The only problem with this is that many of the actors seem to take a stance for one or the other candidate, and then when the election is over, win or lose they seem to disappear away from the candidate. This suggests that many of them are bought and paid for by the actual campaigns of the respective candidates. Instead of actually attaching themselves to the issues at hand, the actors stake a claim to the candidate that offer the most money to them. The movie “Bob Roberts” takes the role of the famous actor supporting a candidate and turns it into a biased media campaign against either Bob Roberts or the incumbent Brickley Paiste. An example of the media and how it can control a campaign is the scene where Bob Roberts is about to go on the air on the talk show “Good Morning Philadelphia.” While preparing for the show, the host tells Bob that she in no way supports anything that he stands for and that basically he makes her sick. That leads to the two of them going head to head on camera. Even if the host did not agree with what Bob Roberts stood for the reporter should not have let this happen. However because the issues were not discussed and there w...
