...or differences in features we are all the same. This could not be further from the truth. Men choose their own paths in life. The day to day decisions that one makes is evidence of the unique, yet subtle differences of people. Though man appears to be the same we are all extremely different. I refuse to believe that my essence or nature is no different from a Charles Manson, or an Adolph Hitler. Sure it is possible for one to find something in common with another such as drive, but there are many more differences that separate us far apart. It is often the mistake of humans to not give certain areas the proper attention. When this is done it becomes easier to generalize things. An example of this is the wild. Animals in the wild are extremely territorial, and don’t except others well. A lion without its mother will have a difficult time surviving, do to the fact that no other lions will accept it. To most humans lions appear to al be the same, ferocious, and aggressive. Lions have no trouble telling each other apart or establishing a chain of command. They are fully aware of themselves, and other lions that are more dominating than themselves. There are many differences between lions that one must take time to recognize. Montaigne uses several examples to offer a similar comparison of the small differences that make things definitively different. “As the most explicit example of likeness the Greeks, Latins and we allude to that of eggs, yet there was a man Delphi among others who recognized the signs of difference between eggs and never mistook one for another.” (365) this is clearly another example of detail. At first glance or thought one could generalize, but the small subtle differences are what widely separate eggs or anything for that matter. Montaigne also alludes to playing cards. They all appear to be exactly the same until someone attempts to bend or fold one, and then it becomes very different ...
