the times
... to be late for his first day of school. Justin had an awkward first day of school. Everyone in his classes just seemed lifeless; they just seemed to sit there and whisper to each other and look at strangely, but when he looked back, they gave him a quick smile. He also noticed something weird about all his classes. At the end of every class the teacher would tell them not to forget to watch the special that would be on channel 86 that night. When he would ask about what the special was he would just receive the same answer “you will just have to watch”. After school Justin went home played basketball. Justin loved to play basketball; he had played basketball since he was able to walk. He was good at it too. He was about 6’6 and could slam dunk the ball on anyone. He loved to tower over his opponents when he played, but his dad warned him many of times not to be so sure of himself. But that was the way Justin was. His dad always thought that he got it from his mother, but Justin didn’t know his mother so he never knew which. Justin never knew his mother because she had left him when he was only 2. Justin always wondered why but just thought to himself that it was her loss not his. After about playing for 2 hours he decided that he had played enough basketball, and thought that he needed to go inside and finish his homework. While doing his homework. He suddenly heard his dad pull up in the driveway. Justin then hurried to finish his last part of his homework. He then heard his dad unlock and open the door and yell, “Hello, is anyone home?” Justin replied, “Finishing my homework, be down in a sec.” Justin ran the stairs to what he thought would be his dad smiling and happy to see him, but he came down to see his dad just the way that he had seen all the people at school. “How was your day?” The only thing that his dad would say is that he needed to go sit down and watch the T.V. His dad then looked at Justin with lifeless eyes and asked him if he would care to join him. “No thanks, Dad, I‘m tired and I think I’m just going to go to bed.” Justin went into the kitchen and glanced back to see his Dad just kind of drag himself into the living room, like a groggy patient in a hospital that had just received a shot of morphine. After Justin had eaten his sandwich he proceeded to his room. He went out of his way to pass his father who was just sitting on the couch starring lifelessly into the television. While he was up in his room listening to music he glanced out his window to see if he could see anybody playing down in the streets below, but all he saw was people either inside watching television like his Dad or sitting on there front porch just starring out like they were lost in a trance. Justin was beginning to get a little suspicious about what was going on in CamdenVille. Everything was starting to worry him a little bit, and worst of all he had no one to talk to about what was going on. Everyone was always acting the same all the time, even his Dad. Justin decided to drive to the nearest town to ask the people there if they knew anything about the events in CamdenVille. The nearest town was Robinson which was about 12 miles away. When Justin arrived he felt very welcome there. People were walking around smiling, talking, and just acting normal, Justin had not been used to this behavior for quite some time. He quickly proceeded to park at the local grocery store called “Price Cutter”, he stepped out of his car and felt the warmth of being in normal environment. He walked over to the automatic sliding doors of Price Cutter and walked in. When he walked in, he saw numerous people inside the grocery store, more than usual for a Tuesday afternoon. Everybody seemed to be happily shopping for their groceries, but they seemed a little to happy. At that instant a little boy walked up to Justin and pulled on his jeans as to get his attention, Justin bent over to talk to the little boy. “Hi, little man what’s your name?” Justin asked the tiny boy. “Bryan.” Said the little boy Suddenly a hand landed on his shoulder and Justin quickly glanced up to see the hands owner. “Hurry up Bryan! Leave this poor guy alone,” Bryan’s mom blurted out. Justin said, “Oh no problem Ma’am, he just wanted to say hi.” `The frantic woman grabbed her kid by the arm and ran off as if Justin was a freak and had scared them away. Justin the proceeded to walk around the grocery store to look for someone to ask about CamdenVille, but when he would ask someone a question they would just simply smile at him and reply with a “Welcome to our town.” ...
