More Money or Happier Life

... The salary would provide for about exactly what kind of life-style I want to live with little room for saving. It would be able to pay the bills on my house, two or three cars, and the loans I had in college. If salary where the only thing that affected my career decision, then I would be an anesthesiologist. Salary is definitely not the most important aspect in choosing my career. More important than money is how long before I can make the money. Sure it would be great to win the lottery, but would you want to do it when you are around seventy years old? In choosing a career I look at it the same way. My plans in life affect my decision greatly. By the time I am 24 I want to have my first child. Do I want to sacrifice this desire in life to make more money as an anesthesiologist? It would take somewhere around 10-12 years after high school before I get a real job as anesthesiologist. In that time I would like to be able to support a growing family instead of studying all of the time and living off of nothing. This is where the chiropractor choice comes into mind. It takes around six years to complete all of the schooling to be a chiropractor. That would barely make me 24 years old. I would be able to start a family at the wanted time in my life. I would still be young, and starting to earn money for my life. When thinking of how soon I want to be able to support myself the chiropractic career has the definite advantage. Perhaps the most important influence when making a career choice is the time that my job will allow me to have to myself. In other words I want to be free in my job.
