The setting takes place in the South of Soledad, in California. George Milton and Lennie Small are walking down a road to a deep pool near the river. Lennie starts to drink from the pool. George tells him not to because he will get sick because the pool might have dirt and germs. Lennie is a mentally disabled. Lennie asks George where they are going and in return George gets mad because Lennie does not remember where they are going when he told Lennie plenty of times. The only thing that Lennie can remember is about the rabbits. Lennie has his hands in his pockets and George wants to know what is inside of his pockets.
