It takes a very strong person who is not easily stressed to be able to handle things on their own without having to find something to calm their nerves or take their mind off of it for a few minutes. My way of dealing with the stress of my every day life was to smoke cigarettes. I know it wasn’t the best way to deal with things, but I got addicted at a young age and smoking seemed to help me make it through each long day. That’s what my parents never understood. They just assumed that I did it to “fit in” or to be cool. Them, constantly lecturing me and getting me in trouble didn’t help out my addiction at all. It just made things worse. Another reason teenagers smoke is because they’re following their parents examples. Growing up, we are raised by our parents, taught right from wrong by our parents, and pretty much taught how to live our lives by them. So naturally, if a child’s parents smoke, they’re going to find nothing wrong with it and pick up the habit just like their parents did. Their parents can’t blame their child. They can talk to them about it, but they should understand that they were just following them. Every normal teenager in the world wants to try everything at least once, before they decide if it’s right or wrong for them. Not just to try and be like everyone else, but to decide for themselves whether they like it or not. They can’t just assume it’s bad by listening to their parents or other older adults.
