...instorm, they stop at a peasant’s cottage in the forest. Inside the cottage Henry finds a peasant girl hiding in her bed. Henry decides that if she was cleaned up, he might like her for the night. Becket, having no intentions of taking her from the cottage, tells Henry he might like her for himself. Henry agrees to this favour, only because he has a plan for a favour in return. Later in the movie after a banquet scene a drunken Henry asks Becket if he can return the favour owed him and let him spend the night with Beckets girlfriend Gwendolyn. In another scene with foreshadowing, a banquet is being prepared and Becket is explaining to Henry the invention of using forks to eat, Henry who finds this an amusing invention, asks Becket not to mention this invention to the Barons because he believes that they will use them as weapons to poke each other. In the banquet scene that follows the foreshadowing about the forks is fulfilled. The Barons do use the forks as daggers. Foreshadowing is again evident when Becket tells Henry “So long as I wear the Chancellors ring I will serve you faithfully.” Becket has thus far been able to serve Henry and the church.
