Mexico has a great number of wonderful directors who have done lots of movies that have had great success. The Mexican film industry has grown in the past years and these directors are the ones to thank. Alfonso Arau has had a career both in front and behind the camera. He is one of the most successful filmmakers in the Latin community. He is a writer, produces and director of theater and film for the past 20 years. He directed his first movie in 1969 named “Barefoot Eagle”. He has directed lots of films like “Como Agua Para Chocolate” in 1992, “To Catch a Falling Star” in 1999. Alfonso Cuaron was born and grew up in Mexico City. He studied in the UNAM. His career began as a technician and then ad a director. In 1991 he got his first project “Solo con tu Pareja”. In 1995 he released his first film in the United States “A Little Princess” later on he made “Great Expectations” starring great actors like Ethan Hawk, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert de Niro. His next project was the big hit. It was filmed in Mexico and it was in Spanish “Y Tu Mama Tambien”. After his great success his latest project was the third part of “Harry Potter”. The following directors are the beginning of Mexican film, some of the most important directors ever in the Mexican Film industry. They aren’t recent directors but they are worth knowing about since they put down the foundation for many more. Emilio "El Indio" Fernandez was for many years a national symbol. He is the typical type of Mexican machismo that came from the revolution. He was born in Coahuila. He participated in revolutionary struggles so he went in exile to the United States where he worked as an extra in Hollywood in 1920 and 1930. in 1993 he came back to Mexico and started his film career first as a writer and actor. In 1940 he became the most famous director of the golden age of Mexican cinema. His famous films are “Flor Silvestre” in 1943 and “Maria Candelaria” in 1943 as well. Later in 1976 he was convicted for shooting a farmer. Fernando Fuentes is the director of two classic films “El Compadre Mendoza” in 1933 and “Vamonos Pancho Villa” in 1933.
