...nt by. Northern colonists of all social levels were becoming more angry over because the current taxes effected all of them regardless of economic status. Both sides eventually became so incensed that war became inevitable. Which in turn made England the most advance commercial country at the time. In order to maintain their status they have impose a series of laws that would be ensure that the economic benefits would return to them. These laws were called the Navigation Acts. The Navigation Acts were based on the principles of mercantilism, a theory that regulated commerce and manufacturing. The colonies were to produce the raw materials which English merchant would turn into finished products that are to be shipped back. The idea of wealth in the 1660s consists of the desire to have a surplus export over imports. The navigation acts did just that, it stated that the colonies were to only ship raw materials ( sugar, tobacco, indigo, cotton) to England and for it to be carried on English-owned ships. The acts also required that European exports that were to come to America to pass through England first in addition to all of the tariffs imposed on the exports as well as the imports. The Atlantic system worked just so... The operation consists of the colonies that the English has established in the Indies and in north America to ship their materials (tobacco, sugar, indigo) to Britain where it is refined into molasses and rum.
