Kupperman shows that in the early years of colonization most of the reports back to England were not as negative as one may believe. Many of the settlers did not view the Indians negatively, but were curious about who these people were and what their lives were like. Likewise, the Indians were curious about who the English were and what kind of lives they lead. Kupperman divides her book into seven distinct chapters. Each talking about different aspects of Indian life and English and Indian relations. Each chapter is able to stand on its own, but the combination of all the chapters together gives the reader a complete picture of Indian and English relations.
