Life Styles Inventory
...I Guide, page 24). My dependent score is on the high-range. In the high-range, results of the high-range are: „h Tend to feel helpless in one or more areas of life and may believe that your effort makes a little difference. „h Generally allow others to control too much of what you do and tend to feel overwhelmed. „h While sensitivity, modesty, and tactfulness are the more positive characteristics of this style, you may be seen as too agreeable; as a result, your opinions and thoughts may be discounted by others (LSI guide page 25). ¡§Limiting¡¨ Thinking Style Out of the Constructive styles, the one I scored higher than the other styles under the Constructive styles is Humanistic-Encouraging, even though the scores under the Constructive styles are much lower than the scores in the other styles. The Humanistic-Encouraging is on the 1 o¡¦clock position. The Humanistic-Encouraging scale measures our interest in people, our tendency to care about others, and our ability to encourage them to improve. Humanistic-Encouraging individuals believe they can assist others in fulfilling their potential by providing a supportive climate that inspires self-improvement. (LSI Guide, page 7). I feel that this style might be reducing my effectiveness in any days life or in the workplace and effecting my personal thinking style. On the Humanistic-Encouraging, I scored in lower range and I thought I¡¦d like to improve that style because Humanistic-Encouraging style is positive, healthy and effective. Since I scored in the low range, here is what the results are: „h Placing unnecessary limits on your relationships „h Difficulty encouraging others „h Being uncomfortable relating to people and often choose to work alone. „h Tendency to become preoccupied with your own problems which makes it harder for you to demonstrate concern for others¡¦ needs. (LSI Guide page 8). I think I should pick this style so that I can improve myself on learning how to interact with people by increasing my interest with those around me. I can try to learn and ask for help. Part II: Impact on Management Style The impact of my personal styles have on management style based on the five functions of management are: „h Planning: My low score on the ¡§Perfectionistic (LSI page 45)¡¨ (10 o¡¦clock) behavior would make a great impact on the way I would plan to do things. In the low range for the Perfectionistic thinking style, I just try to do the best I can and I¡¦m probably realistic about what I can accomplish. If I¡¦m less perfectionistic, I can plan and be a good organizer. „h Organizing: Since my score is lower on the ¡§Affiliative¡¨ behavior (2 o¡¦clock), I think that this can effect my way of organizing. If I was more ¡§Affiliative¡¨, then I can create friendly atmosphere with loose, informal staff groups. This would be a great effectiveness if I have improved my ¡§Affiliative¡¨ behavior score and that I can learn how to balance my people skills with a concern of completing projects in a timely manner. „h Staffing: Since my score on ¡§Power¡¨ (8 o¡¦clock) behavior is in the middle range, my tendency to seek power surfaces most often during stressful situations. If I can be a little less power-oriented, then I should seek feedback from my behavior on neutral resources and examine the quality of my relationships (LSI page 9). I should also concentrate on developing some personal goals. If I can be effective as a manager on staffing, then I should learn that my need for power could be based on fear. „h Directing: I would improve my ¡§Humanistic-Encouraging¡¨ behavior (1 o¡¦clock), so that I can be effective as a manager in directing. Since I have a low score on ¡§Humanistic-Encouraging¡¨, I would think about the qualities of whom I admire...
